02 Aug Meet Alex, Associate
By Siobhan O’Connor
Today, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Alex Dundas to ask him about himself and how he came to be at Clearline. Alex joined the company in February 2018 just before our busy tax season.
Alex has a really interesting path having started a business at 14 years old. With the humble hopes of gaining some pocket money, Alex and his friend started going door-to-door to their neighbours to offer services to install tree protection. Their service stopped insects from consuming the trees and opening them up to issues like Dutch Elm disease.
For 12 years, Alex worked on his business which expanded to over 400 clients annually. During this time, he also travelled all over North and Central America before graduating from UBC Okanagan with a Bachelors in Arts.
He then decided to become an accountant and sold his half of the company to his business partner. He moved to Vancouver from Manitoba, and began his diploma at UBC to study accounting.
Ever the go-getter entrepreneur that he is, Alex began his own bookkeeping firm after graduation, which catered to small businesses and self-employed contractors.
In February, Alex joined Clearline in our downtown Vancouver office, with the intent of becoming an auditor. He is currently enrolled in the CPA program and planning to write his CFE in 2020.
Outside of the office, Alex enjoys cycling, basketball and ultimate frisbee. To my utter disappointment, he has also played tennis for many years and absolutely dominates on Clearline’s office ping pong table. He is currently third on our leader board, but has great aspirations to become this year’s Clearline Champion Ping Pong player.
